Dr. Benoit-Antoine Bacon started his five-year mandate as President of Carleton University on July 1, 2018. He joined Carleton from Queen’s University where he served as Provost and Vice-Principal (Academic).

He previously served as Provost and Vice-President (Academic Affairs) at Concordia University in his hometown of Montreal where he was recognized with an award as Concordia University’s Sustainability Champion.

His first academic appointment was at Bishop’s University, where he served in a number of leadership roles including Dean of Arts and Science, Associate Vice-Principal for Research, chair of the psychology department and chief negotiator for the association of professors of Bishop’s University. He is a three-time recipient of Bishop’s Merit Award for exceptional performance in teaching and research.

Dr. Bacon holds a PhD in neuropsychology from the University of Montreal, after which he undertook an NSERC-funded post-doctoral fellowship at the University of Glasgow in Scotland.

His research in the field of cognitive neuroscience focuses on the links between brain activity and perception in the visual and auditory systems, as well as on multisensory integration. He remains associated with the Montreal-based Neuropsychology and Cognition Research Center (CERNEC), which is funded by the Fonds de recherche du Québec – Santé (FRQS).

Dr. Dehne received a MCS (Dipl. Inform.) from RWTH Aachen University, Germany and a PhD from the University of Würzburg, Germany. He is currently Chancellor’s Professor of Computer Science and Founding Director of the Institute for Data Science at Carleton University in Ottawa, Canada. Dr. Dehne’s research program is focused on improving the performance of data analytics systems for business intelligence and computational biochemistry through efficient parallel computing methods for multi-core processors, GPUs, processor clusters and clouds. He is serving or has served on the Editorial Boards of IEEE Transaction on Computers, Information Processing Letters, Journal of Bioinformatics Research and Applications, and Int. Journal of Data Warehousing and Mining. He is a member and former vice-chair of the IEEE Technical Committee on Parallel Processing, and member of the ACM Symposium on Parallel Algorithms & Architectures Steering Committee. Since 2010, Dr. Dehne is a Fellow of the IBM Centre For Advanced Studies Canada (Business Intelligence and Business Analytics section).

Robin is the chief technology officer at MindBridge Ai, where he leads the development of a next generation AI Auditor that helps professionals detect and prevent financial anomalies, including fraud.

Robin has a track record as an entrepreneur, having founded successful software start-ups. He joined Cognos and then IBM through acquisitions. In 2012, he was appointed an IBM Distinguished Engineer. At IBM, he was a part of the Watson group, where he served as technical lead and chief architect of IBM Watson Analytics. Robin holds many patents in the areas of analytics, data processing and security.

Tracey P. Lauriault is Associate Professor of Critical Media and Big Data, School of Journalism and Communication at Carleton University, cross appointed to Digital Humanities, and is board member of the Institute for Data Science. She is a critical data studies scholar who works on open data, big data, open smart cities, open government, and data governance. Her ongoing research covers topics such as disaggregated equity data, digital twins, and intersectional approaches to data governance. She is a data and technological citizen who examines large and small complex systems with the hope of making them more just, inclusive, equitable and environmentally sustainable.
